Use the slider to see the difference in the shape of a contact lens.
Drag the slider to the left and right to see how the lens shape differs depending if it is the correct or the wrong way round.
The lens on the left is the wrong way round. You can see its shape is not a smooth curve. The lens on the right is a nice smooth dome shape and is the correct orientation for inserting in your eye.
Incorrectly installed lenses can be very uncomfortable but do not often cause serious problems.

Contact Lens Problems
Contact lens problems can be caused by a variety of different reasons. For the lenses to work properly it is important to treat them properly and to use them as recommended by your eye care professional. If a proper care, maintainance and replacement schedule is not adhered to then problems with your visionand comfort can occur.
In some circumstance contact lenses can cause other more serious issues. If you experience discomfort you should immediately remove the lenses and consult your eye care professional.
Typical Symptoms of Contact Lens Problems
- Eyes stinging, burning, itching (irritation), or other eye pain
- Comfort is less than when lens was first placed on eye
- Abnormal feeling of something in the eye (foreign body, scratched area)
- Excessive watering (tearing) of the eyes
- Unusual eye secretions
- Redness of the eyes
- Reduced sharpness of vision (poor visual acuity)
- Blurred vision, rainbows, or halos around objects
- Sensitivity to light (photophobia)
- Dry eyes
These symptoms can be broken down into 3 main areas:
Comfort Issues
Are your eyes stinging, burning, itching or are you experiencing eye pain? Do you feel like something foreign may be in your eye? Are you less comfortable the longer you leave the contacts in your eye? You should remove your lenses and inspect them. If you see they are not completely clean you should rinse thorougly with the correct solution and disinfect. If the lens still doesnt feel right you should remove the lenses immediately and see your eye care professional.
Vision Issues
Do you have blurred vision, halos around objects, or reduced sharpness of vision? Are you unable to see clearly at distances you could see clearly before? If you were recently prescribed new lenses, your prescription may be incorrect or the type and size of lens may not be a good choice for your eyes. Your eye care professional can advise you on another type of lens thats right for you.
Physical symptoms
Do you have excessive tearing, redness or dry eyes? There could also be secretions or a discharge from around the eye. If this is the case you should remove your lenses immediately and inspect for any foreign objects on the lens. If you don’t see anything unusual seek medical help as you may have a condition that requires a specific treatment or prescription eye drops. Don’t risk of damage to your eyes by delaying a visit to your eye care professional.
Treatment
Wearing contact lenses for a long period of time can cause your eyes to feel dry and a feeling of something gritty being in your eyes.
Your eye care hygiene is paramount to ensuring healthy eyes when you are a contact lens wearer. You also need to be extra careful so that make-up doesn’t come in contact with the delicate contact lens.
There are many ways that we can help you improve any discomfort you have from your contact lenses. We can also help you select cleansing products and make-up that are suitable for the sensitive skin around your eyes.
If you are using re-usable contact lenses you need to take extra care to clean them properly and always clean your hands first. If you fail to do this there is a risk of getting a bacterial infection and this can be serious if left untreated.
We also recommend that you don’t wear your contact lenses for too long and avoid wearing them overnight so year eyes can hydrate. Some brands of contact lenses can be worn safely overnight but to keep your eyes healthy it is better to take them out.
At the Eye Health Clinic, we can help you overcome your contact lens problem and with tailored solution to keep your eyes healthy. If you are suffering with contact lens problems the best thing to do is to contact us and get your eyes checked.

The damage caused by glaucoma can’t be reversed. But treatment and regular checkups can help slow or prevent vision loss, especially if you catch the disease in its early stages.
Glaucoma is treated by lowering your eye pressure (intraocular pressure). Depending on your situation, your options may include prescription eyedrops, oral medications, laser treatment, surgery or a combination of any of these.
Treatments depend on the type of AMD you have.
Dry AMD – there’s no treatment, but vision aids can help reduce the effect on your life.
Wet AMD – you may need regular eye injections and, very occasionally, a light treatment called “photodynamic therapy” to stop your vision getting worse.
